Therapeutic cannabis, Emilia Romagna doubles the requests

Emilia Romagna has asked the Ministry of Health to double the amount of therapeutic cannabis available to it for 2018, from 37 to 60 kilograms. The request is motivated by the growing demand for patients who use it on prescription. Furthermore, to avoid repeating the shortage of therapeutic cannabis that has occurred in recent months, the Region has also decided to directly purchase a share through its own hospital pharmacies, in order to ensure therapeutic continuity of treatment. And it will be the first Italian region to do it. The request to use cannabis in recent years has been steadily increasing and, based on regional regional assistance service data, imports have increased from 6 kilograms in 2016 to 32 in 2017 to reach 60 this year. Another element that emerged from regional data is that in 2017, 50% of those who purchased cannabis for therapeutic use came from outside the region, a figure that reached 70% in the first month of 2018. Also because the regions bordering on our state a requirement of 2 kilograms of cannabis, thus determining a sort of health tourism. Since 2016, Emilia Romagna has provided for the total exemption for the use of cannabis only for two specific pathologies: multiple sclerosis and neuropathic pain resistant to conventional treatments and, in the period between September 2016 and November 2017, patients 814 were used in cannabis. But it is foreseeable that the number of those who can use cannabis for therapeutic purposes increases.

If you still do not know the hemp, run for cover: 10 things to know about the miraculous plant Rich in proteins, antioxidants and vitamins, if used in the kitchen; ready to replace plastic or to turn into paper, fabric or even a fuel, if destined for other uses. Known since the dawn of time and used in natural medicine, hemp is one of the most versatile plants in the world. Victim of Prohibition, because confused with the "sister" marijuana, industrial hemp is gaining more and more fame, winning the distrust of consumers. Celebrated by many parties, in the bio field but also in major events, such as "Canapa Mundi", International Hemp Fair, which will be held in Rome from 16 to 18 February, this plant deserves, therefore, to conquer a prominent place among the plant species friendly to man and the environment. Here are ten things that maybe you did not know about hemp:     Hemp is an ancient plant Hemp is an annual woody plant consisting of a tall and thin trunk, littered and surmounted by leaves, which can reach and in some cases exceed 4 meters in height. It is characterized by an exceptionally resistant fiber, a paste rich in cellulose and extremely nutritious seeds. Depending on the different methods of cultivation and processing, it can be used in various sectors, from food to textile. Its use is lost in the mists of time: it is in fact considered one of the oldest cultures of human civilization and has always been used in natural medicine. 2. What is the difference between cannabis and marijuana? The difference is in the degree of Thc. The hemp family includes several species of plants. Among them, the most used by man is the Cannabis Sativa, whose resin is practically free of cannabinoids, or the psychotropic substances of which THC is the main component, and is therefore used in the food, textile, energy sectors. Cannabinoids, on the other hand, are present in the leaves and inflorescences of another species of hemp, Indian Hemp or Cannabis Indica. Its resin is rich in THC: since ancient times its healing properties have been known, so much so that in the East and in the West it was common practice to smoke the rolled leaves of hemp. Marijuana is considered a light drug and its cultivation in Italy is forbidden. Hemp and marijuana are not, therefore, the same thing. Hemp, while maintaining a similar appearance to marijuana, has been increasingly selected for industrial use, which has reduced the concentrations of THC to a minimum. In a normal variety of certified industrial hemp, the amount of THC is irrelevant and negligible (less than 0.2%) and therefore completely legal. 3. From outlaw plant to resource for the economy At the beginning of 1900, before the advent of prohibition, in Italy more than 100 thousand hectares of hemp were cultivated. In 2015 we have cultivated just over 3 thousand. This is because the plant has moved from being a center of a thriving economy to an outlaw product, due to the confusion with marijuana. Today hemp lives a period of rediscovery. The new Italian law on industrial hemp entered into force on 14 January 2017 and establishes, among other things, that no further authorization is required for sowing hemp varieties certified with a maximum of 0.2% THC content. Below this threshold, therefore, it is possible to grow hemp without problems. 4. Use in the kitchen: hemp oil Hemp oil is obtained by cold pressing of Cannabis Sativa seeds. It can be used in the kitchen like any other oil and can be integrated into the normal diet to promote and protect the proper functioning of physiological processes, from metabolism to immune defenses. It is known for its antioxidant, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, to alleviate stress, insomnia and anxiety. In addition, it has a perfect balance between Omega 3 and Omega 6. It is also a powerful elixir of beauty, able to make the skin soft, supple and smooth, also acting against acne and psoriasis, especially when used in creams. Despite the benefits derived from its use, it is still little known, if not by the niche consumers of the organic sector. The popularity of this product is growing slowly but is still held back by high costs and misinformation. 5. The "super food": hemp seeds Obtained from the herbaceous plant Cannabis Sativa, hemp seeds are considered a complete food from the protein point of view: this is why they are highly appreciated by those who follow a vegetarian or vegan diet. In fact, 25% are composed of proteins, but in an exceptional combination that includes all the 8 essential amino acids for protein synthesis. Often referred to as "super food", they have different properties: thanks to the high presence of polins acids
